ALTERNATIVE SERVICE BREAK 2011
May 7-15, 2011
House Rock Valley, AZ
Do you like to Camp? Are you looking for an opportunity engage in service activities in Arizona? UNL Service-Learning and Campus Recreation are teaming up for this year's May Alternative Service Break to House Rock Valley, AZ. The trip will be working with the Grand Canyon Trust on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon Trust has extensive involvement in critical issues facing the southwest: www.grandcanyontrust.org.
We will be participating in up to three different projects: building a native plant demonstration garden at our historic ranch house, restoration of a spring that has been degraded from years of cattle grazing and is dominated by non-native vegetation, and ground-truthing a cheatgrass model we have been developing over the last few years (cheatgrass is a highly invasive, non-native grass present throughout much of the western U.S.). We will also be camping the entire trip.
The cost will be $350. Please fill out the attached forms below. When completed please turn in forms and at least $150 to the UNL Campus Recreation Outdoor Adventures by April 22. We will have a pre-trip meeting April 25th at the Campus Recreation Center.
Deadline to sign up April 22, 2011
