Gender Programs: Counseling


We offer individual, confidential counseling for women and men students on a wide range of personal issues. Call the counseling coordinator at (402) 472-9428 for more information or to schedule an appointment.

Belinda Hinojos, M.S., Counseling Coordinator, is a doctoral student in the Educational Psychology department. She provides individual and couples counseling to students on a variety of issues, and coordinates the support and discussion groups offered through the Women’s Center. She also facilitates various workshops on campus and in the community. Belinda is especially interested in the needs of Latina/o students and co-facilitates the Latina Discussion group and is fluent in Spanish. Anita Ferrell, Field Placement Counselor, is a master’s student in the Educational Psychology department. She provides individual and couples counseling to students on a variety of issues and coordinates the Walk and Talk: Weekly Walking group for students on city campus. Anita is especially interested in the needs of rural students as they transition to life at UNL and is available for counseling on East campus. She leads the presentation “From County Roads to Course Loads: A Discussion about Transitioning to a Large College from a Small Town.”

Jeff Reznicek-Parrado, M.A., Men’s Programs Coordinator, is a doctoral student in the Educational Psychology department. He provides individual and couples counseling to students on a variety of issues, but is especially interested in examining the ways in which masculinity shapes men’s lives. Jeff is the lead facilitator of the Men’s Advisory Group, and coordinates several programs on campus related to men’s issues.

Jan Deeds, Ph.D., Associate Director of Student Involvement, serves as the Women’s Center Director and specializes in Gender Programs. She is a licensed professional counselor and advises several student organizations on campus.

Support and Discussion Groups are offered through the Women's Center and in partnership with Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). These groups meet in room 338 of the Nebraska Union. Contact the facilitators listed for more information about the group. Participation is free unless otherwise indicated.

Latina Discussion Group

This is a weekly support and discussion group for Latina students at UNL. Come meet and connect with other Latina students on campus and discuss a variety of topics. Graduate and Undergraduate students welcome. No registration required.

Lesbian, Bisexual, and Questioning Group

A weekly discussion group for women identified individuals who are lesbian, bisexual or questioning their sexual orientation. Your presence will be confidential.

Sister Circle: A Support Group for Women of Color

This is a weekly support and discussion group for women of color. It's based on an empowerment model for building an extended network of supportive friends and colleagues.

Walk and Talk: Weekly Walking Group

A relaxing, comfortable opportunity for people of all fitness levels to exercise and make new friends. We will walk on campus or inside the Nebraska Union depending on the weather.
