Developing a Constitution
In order to complete the recognition process, all student groups must develop a constitution. There are several items that are required to be included verbatim if a constitution is to be approved. A copy of these requirements is available in the Association of Students of the University of Nebraska (ASUN) office. Four typed copies of the constitution must be submitted to the ASUN office by the date provided by ASUN at the time the Letter of Intent was submitted (typically 90 days after the Letter of Intent is submitted).
Constitution Review and Approval by ASUN
The ASUN Special Topics Committee will review constitutions within 14 days of submission. The student group will receive written notification of its status following the committee’s review. If the constitution is rejected by the ASUN Special Topics Committee, a student group has sixty (60) calendar days to revise and resubmit it for approval. If the constitution is accepted by the ASUN Special Topics Committee, the student group is then considered a Recognized Student Organization (RSO) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) with all the privileges and responsibilities of that status. To complete the recognition process, students should stop by the Student Involvement office and do the following:
- Fill out an Annual Review Form (ARF).
- Get a mailbox in Student Involvement, 200 Nebraska Union or 300 Nebraska East Union.
- Identify the RSO's need for office space.
- Open an account with Student Organization Financial Services (SOFS), 222 Nebraska Union or 314 Nebraska East Union.
- Become familiar with the Student Involvement staff and the services offered to meet the needs of RSOs.
